Detroit is a city you just want to root for…the underdog, if you will. Recently, Detroit has gained support from startup and tech companies and foodie celebrities like Anthony Bourdain who want the rest of the country to join the fight. This city simply can not die.
When you really sit and think of the rich history born in Detroit, the question of “what other city is more American than Detroit” starts to surface. The birthplace of automobiles, motown and joe lewis, much of Detroit remains untouched. There are no shiny buildings here (unless you count the GM headquarters, which isn’t new), blocks of homes stand boarded up, old theaters like the Fox (truly a marvel) and the Fisher still stand tall and proud and there is an overarching theme: to know Detroit is to love Detroit.
